Despite not having lived at home since I was 19 (I’m now 32), I seem to have a never ending pile of  old boxes at my mother’s house. After 12 years, she is putting her foot down and making me go through them, so last Sunday it begun and I found a treasure chest of old photos.

The photos ranged from 1988 and my first year away at camp all the way through to University. But, the prize was a set of photos from 1993 when I made a visit to the Habs dressing room and watched a practise. It must have been the morning skate, because I have photos of the Mighty Ducks skating as well. Through the miracles of the internet, I am able to tell you that the exact date was October 23, 1993 and the Habs went on to win that night 4-1 (remember when the Habs won games?!)

The occasion for this lovely morning was a family connection. I am not 100% sure who knew who, but my sister (who is clad in an all jean outfit, as you will see), a couple of friends and myself were the only fans there.

Below are some of the best photos of the visit. At the time I was a goaltender, and meeting Patrick Roy was the highlight. He was what you would call my all-time favourite athlete idol. My mom was so excited for me that she handed him my player photo to sign, which is a weird thing to do. Somewhere in those boxes is a photo of me in butterfly with Patrick Roy’s signature scrawled across my face.

When I saw him in Florida in November, he had no recollection of this momentousness first meeting.

And that concludes our walk down memory lane and a reminder that the 90s may have in fact been worse for fashion than the 80s.
