In the last decade of the 18th century, the French people were ready to revolt. They were hungry and tired of the absolute monarchy that ruled them. When bread prices soared, Marie-Antoinette, the queen of France supposedly proclaimed “Well let them eat cake”. When Pierre Gauthier fired Perry Pearn last night, that’s what he told the Habs fan base. He wasn’t going to give us the bread we so craved and needed, instead he offered an off the cuff firing, hoping it would appease the masses. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled with the win last night. THRILLED! Watching a hockey game was actually an  enjoyable experience. I didn’t have angry texts going back and forth between my friends, and heck, I might even walk down to Cage aux Sports for some free wings today. Salut Jacques! I know we’ve never met, but we have a few acquaintances in common. Perhaps you are the one that picked up my left-behind asthma pump? I forgot it  on the Habs bench last January when I had the privilege to play at the Bell Centre. Regardless, I write to you not to discuss bronchodilators, but to discuss the somewhat hellish opening of the 2011/2012 Habs season. You may be asking why you should read my letter, and I have no good reason, except I’m pretty sure that the majority of Habs fans feel as I do, and it would be in your best interest to heed to at least a couple of suggestions. First, a small recap… The Montreal Canadiens  ended last season nearly moving on to the 2nd round. They blew a 2-0 game lead to lose all home games, and an OT game 7 to the eventual Stanley Cup...

Week 1: Great Success

According to my Fantasy Pool, the first week of NHL hockey is complete (it was actually 10 days, October 7 to October 17, but whatever...). The Habs are 3-1-1, the Leafs are 4-0 and Pittsburgh can only win a game when Fleury isn't in goal. My oh my how the tables have turned. I loved the hockey I saw from the Canadiens over the weekend, but then again, I have loved the hockey they've been playing since April.
