Top 10 Surprises of the 2011/2012 Season

It's almost January 1st, so I am jumping on the Top 10 bandwagon!! This will be a welcome distraction from the language debate that has once again gripped our city. I will try not to be 100% Habs-Centric, but don't be surprised if 5 of the 10 focus on the Habs.

My feelings are hurt…

I've been meaning to write this for awhile now, but a discussion with a colleague yesterday really just pushed me over the edge. He came to my office and noticed the Habs schedule taped to my desk. He goes on to say "oh..your a Habs fan, I thought I could respect you..." Whhhaattt? Apparently he isn't a Habs fan, and he is visibly angry towards those that are. He asked me why I liked the Habs over any other team, and the only answer I had was because I was born and raised a Habs fan, and don't know any other way.

10 Years of Drafts – Part 3

Part 3 – the final entry, of my look back at 10 years worth of drafts, this time I look at the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 drafts. Who was drafted? Who never made it? And who should the Habs have picked?

New Year NHL WTFs

December 20, 2010

Quick recap of the game last night, but I much prefer to talk about other stories happening in hockey. At the core of my soul I am a Habs fan, and I can't bare to dissect a yet another late-period goal. The Habs will pick it up, and we'll (ahem..I mean they) will start stringing wins together again. With that in mind, I thought I would take today to share my favorite WTF of this 2010-2011 season:

Favorite NHL Products

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am a subscriber to the NHL newsletter and that means weekly emails about whatever great new jersey sale they are having. Since my real job is the Marketing and Communications Director of a company, and a good part of our strategy is eNewsletters, I like to give other companies the stats I crave, so I click on the links and read whatever it is I am supposed to read. I like to think of it as marketing karma. What has surprised me is the sheer number of ridiculous items the NHL sells – basically, if you can put a team logo on it the NHL will sell it. It's at the point that if I wanted, I could dress and live in a mono-hab world. I could literally ensure that my eyes only gaze upon Habs paraphenlia in both my...

I’m Back – And Angry at Bell

I’m Back – And Angry at Bell

Wow..it's been basically a week since I've written anything. Sorry about that. My excuse is that my body hurts and my index finger on my right hand is all but broken (due to a combination of a co-worker, a mini-hockey stick, and a concrete floor). I missed both games on the weekend, but it was almost another back to back 0-3, 3-0 game. I love this team, I love what they are doing, but they seem to get shut out an inordinate amount of times. Another thing I missed this weekend was the series premier of Your Canadiens, the new reality series produced by Bell that follows a player for a day (or something to that effect). This Saturday, the episode was about Andrei Markov, and while I am totally appalled by the idea of a Habs reality TV show, I also will likely watch every episode.

The Weekend & Reasons for Love

A win, a loss – it was Halloween and I drank a bit too much on both nights to give any kind of actual opinion. I am glad the Habs won with Auld, and from what I remember about the Florida game, they looked a little sluggish and surprise-surprise, went zero for whatever on the powerplay. That's okay, Markov's back right? Because I write this blog now, I am much more aware of when I miss a game, or when I am only half-watching. I mean, they do play 82-games a season (plus pre-season, plus playoffs), so sometimes the living of my life happens and I miss a game. This blog isn't a money-making venture, and that's okay because I do quite well in the job I am in, so I don't have that much guilt when I do miss a game. I write this blog because I love...

2010-2011 Head Shot Rule

2010-2011 Head Shot Rule

The NHL released a video to all 30 clubs today outlining the new head shot rule, as well as clarifying rules for other forms of contact. I love that they did this, and I love that the NHL made the video public so the entire fan base can inform themselves on these rules.

First Time Fantasy

First Time Fantasy

I had drunk one too many aperitifs and was on my third glass of wine. Not exactly how I pictured my first time – picking players for an NHL Fantasy Draft that is. I signed up through my favorite Habs website, Habsinsideout, and though have I participated in many hockey pools, this was my first time venturing into the realm of Fantasy sports. My track record with hockey pools has been pretty good – last spring I won the Gainey Foundation Playoff pool, and I generally finish in the top three in my office pools (save for that one season when I seemed to be a defensive curse, and all my defense picks ended up on the IR).
