Which was worse?

Last night a fellow Habs fan on Twitter mentioned that this is the worst season for the Habs. I disagreed, I said the Centennial season was worse. In truth, both are terrible so let's compare and contrast to come up with the truly worst season of the Habs. Though to be fair, this season isn't over yet – things might totally change between now and April, in which case I will just delete this post :) I've broken down the post into categories; expectations, offseason, regular season moves, on-ice drama, off-ice drama. For each category I chose a "winner" for the worst season. My conclusion ties it all together. Though to be fair, this season isn't over yet – things might totally change between now and April, in which case I will just delete this post :) I've broken down the post into categories; expectations, offseason, regualar season moves, on-ice drama,...

Top 10 Surprises of the 2011/2012 Season

It's almost January 1st, so I am jumping on the Top 10 bandwagon!! This will be a welcome distraction from the language debate that has once again gripped our city. I will try not to be 100% Habs-Centric, but don't be surprised if 5 of the 10 focus on the Habs.

Mid(ish) Season Prediction Review

Welcome to 2011, the post-LaPierre era :) With the New Year comes time to review what I thought would happen in this 2010-2011 season. By the end of this week, our Habs will have played their 41st and 42nd game, meaning by Sunday morning the season will be just over the halfway mark. I don't pretend to be the Nostradamus of hockey, but in looking back at what I predicted, I'm not doing so badly. I would give myself a B-. Below, in bold are my the prediction I made, in italics is the reality, and in plain old font is my self-assessment. It's kind of like the yearly self-evaluations I do at work, but instead of the cash bonus I will reward myself with the uninhibited adoration from my millions of fans.

Week 1: Great Success

According to my Fantasy Pool, the first week of NHL hockey is complete (it was actually 10 days, October 7 to October 17, but whatever...). The Habs are 3-1-1, the Leafs are 4-0 and Pittsburgh can only win a game when Fleury isn't in goal. My oh my how the tables have turned. I loved the hockey I saw from the Canadiens over the weekend, but then again, I have loved the hockey they've been playing since April.

Morning After…

The Habs lost last night, but I liked what I saw. Eller, a great last minute rush, Boyd, Halpern and yes..Price. Sure he had a rough start, but he pulled it together enough to make a huge save against Kessle in the third. Sadly, this morning I inevitably woke up to ridiculous headlines and =accompanying photos were of course of Price. Can the media simmer down for one moment?

Dear Hockey Gods…

Tonight is the last night where I don't care about what's on TV. It's the last night that I don't check my phone compulsively for scores and updates. Tonight is the last night I can honestly look in the mirror and say I am a good partner and a good spouse. Because starting tomorrow, 3 out of my 7 evenings will be pre-occupied with something I have no control over and no real stake in. Yet somehow it will overtake me and I will be lost until April (or god-willing, June).
